I am planning to move to the Philippines.

In Australia, my Optus Mobile number is crucial to get access to for example MyGov account, how important is that function?

Hi Photis,

I moved as much as I could to use a 2FA app. Even my US government websites can use 2FA apps rather than SMS. However, I do have three or so financial accounts that, for some reason, only use text messages to verify identity. I keep a US number for these accounts via Google FI, Google Voice, or Tello.

I don't think those options are available in Australia, but I do know that Twilio offers Australian phone numbers. Have you tried them? I haven't used them myself, but I now know other expats who have.
