Hi Eve, That is an excellent question. I'm not sure. It's a unique circumstance, talking with the PRA about your situation is going to be your best bet.

I qualify for SRRV Expanded courtesy and 13a visa. Which is better and what is the cost and time frame for each?

Hi Lee, there are pros and cons of both. It depends on what is most important to you. The 13a marriage visa is the cheapest. The downside to the 13a is your residency is tied to another person. The 13a only allows you to live in the as long as you are married. If you become widowed or divorced, then you are required to downgrade to a tourist visa. The SRRV is yours to keep as long as you maintain the requirements. The SRRV also allows you to skip annual reporting, which is another pain in the ass bureaucracy. If you need help with either visa, let me know.

Hi Marco
I have a small condo in Connecticut, US, near New York City. I would like to move all of the contents to my new home in Mangaldan. I estimate a 20 foot container will be enough. Is this possible? Does it make sense, cost-wise, or should I just sell and give away my stuff.?

Hi John, honestly, unless they're very specialized items that would be expensive, hard to find, or have sentimental value, it's cheaper to sell and buy in the Philippines. However, you can get free quotes from accredited international movers using this form. Expats can save up to 40% having up to 5 different moving companies compete for your business.

Hi Richard, You can find a list of documents required for the SRRV here. For the apostille, it depends on the document. If it is a foreign document, then yes. If it is a Philippine document, then no apostille is required. For example, if you do the Police Background check in the US, then you will need an apostille. If you do an NBI police check in the Philippines, then no apostille. In the US, where you get an apostille depends on the document. For example if you did a FL background check, then the department of State of Florida does the apostille. If you do a federal FBI background check, the the US State department in DC will need to apostille the document. Make sense? If you need more information or need help with your visa application, let me know.

Hi! Very informative information. I need a clarification about the SRRV Classic ($20K). Can the deposit be kept idle in a PH bank account and not be used for any "investment" purposes (i.e. condo, etc)? Also, at what point of the application pricess do we have to open the PH bank account? Can it be opened (while in the country for 30 days) on a simple tourist visa without a fixed local PH address?

Hi Simon,For clarification, the deposit doesn't go into an account you own, it goes into a PRA account.

Hi Donald, it depends on the type of SRRV you want to apply for.

  • SRRV Classic - Retirees over 50 years old. Has no income requirement to qualify. However, you can reduce your required deposit to $10,000 if you have a monthly pension or social security of $800+
  • SRRV Expanded Courtesy -For US military or any retired foreign member of the Armed Forces with $1000 in guaranteed monthly income.
  • SRRV Human Touch - For ailing retirees over 50 years old, who need medical care in the Philippines, and have $1500 in guaranteed monthly income

You are correct. If you are over 70, you don't need a background check from your home country.
